SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Shirley P. Shaw of Barrington Hills, who
4passed away on July 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Shaw was born in Lake Forest on February
621, 1915 to Elizabeth and Charles Paulson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Shirley Shaw had an early career as a highly
8sought after professional model for many of the top brands in
9the United States; in 1946, she met and married John Shaw and
10moved to Barrington Hills, where she lived for almost 70 years;
11after her marriage, she continued her modeling for the St.
12Luke's Hospital Fashion Show, something she enjoyed doing for
13many years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Shirley Shaw and her husband enjoyed repeated
15visits to New York City and Boston to be with his 2 children,
16and in the early 1950s they had two children of their own; she
17enjoyed playing golf with family and friends at the Barrington
18Hills Country Club well into her 90s; she worked as a volunteer
19for the Cradle and was especially passionate about her
20volunteer work at Chapin Hall in Chicago; she was a member of
21the Garden Club of Barrington for more than 50 years; she
22maintained over 500 house plants and enjoyed making pickles,

1jams, and breads which she generously gave to her many friends;
2she and her husband enjoyed their time in Barrington Hills;
3Naples, Florida; Carefree, Arizona; and their extensive
4travels to Europe; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Shirley Shaw was preceded in death by her husband,
6John; her grandsons, Arch W. Shaw, III and Nelson Shaw Hooe;
7and her sister, Maxine Paulson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Shirley Shaw is survived by her children, Arch W.
9Shaw, II, Bruce P. (Nancy) Shaw, John I. (Ann) Shaw, Jr., and
10Susie (Nelson) Hooe; her 11 grandchildren; her 15
11great-grandchildren; her special friend, Taylor Forrest; and
12several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Shirley P. Shaw, and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Shirley Shaw as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
