| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Martin D. Sutherland of Springfield, who | 4 | | passed away on December 16, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was born in Chicago on May 11, | 6 | | 1950 to Marshall and Mildred (nee Westbrook) Sutherland; he | 7 | | graduated from Hillsboro High School and received his | 8 | | bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University; he served in | 9 | | the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1971 during the | 10 | | Vietnam War; he married Pam Rosentreter on February 15, 1969 in | 11 | | Hillsboro and they renewed their vows on February 14, 2009 in | 12 | | Moorea in the South Pacific; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland worked for the State of Illinois | 14 | | for 43 years in a variety of departments, retiring in 2014 from | 15 | | the Department of Children and Family Services; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland served as the Board President | 17 | | for Planned Parenthood in Springfield; he was a member of the | 18 | | local golf league and the Macoupin Club; he enjoyed fishing, | 19 | | golfing, and traveling, especially to Tahiti; he was a master | 20 | | woodworker; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was preceded in death by his |

| 1 | | parents and his brother, Marshall Sutherland, Jr.; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland is survived by his wife of 45 | 3 | | years, Pam Sutherland; his father-in-law, Norman Rosentreter; | 4 | | several family members including, Sam Faggetti and Melanie and | 5 | | Ryan Turner and their children, Marley and Darian; his | 6 | | siblings, Marsha and Elia Tabri and Mark Sutherland; his | 7 | | sisters-in-law, Mary (Lyndal) Herschelman, Janet Rosentreter, | 8 | | and Norma (Bill) Plowman; his brother-in-law, Andy (Dawn) | 9 | | Rosentreter; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, | 10 | | Thomas, Barticus, and Jackson Brown; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Martin D. Sutherland, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Martin Sutherland as an expression | 18 | | of our deepest sympathy.
