SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Martin D. Sutherland of Springfield, who passed away on December 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was born in Chicago on May 11, 1950 to Marshall and Mildred (nee Westbrook) Sutherland; he graduated from Hillsboro High School and received his bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University; he served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War; he married Pam Rosentreter on February 15, 1969 in Hillsboro and they renewed their vows on February 14, 2009 in Moorea in the South Pacific; and

WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland worked for the State of Illinois for 43 years in a variety of departments, retiring in 2014 from the Department of Children and Family Services; and

WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland served as the Board President for Planned Parenthood in Springfield; he was a member of the local golf league and the Macoupin Club; he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling, especially to Tahiti; he was a master woodworker; and

WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Marshall Sutherland, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pam Sutherland; his father-in-law, Norman Rosentreter; several family members including, Sam Faggetti and Melanie and Ryan Turner and their children, Marley and Darian; his siblings, Marsha and Elia Tabri and Mark Sutherland; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Lyndal) Herschelman, Janet Rosentreter, and Norma (Bill) Plowman; his brother-in-law, Andy (Dawn) Rosentreter; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Thomas, Barticus, and Jackson Brown; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Martin D. Sutherland, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Martin Sutherland as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
