SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael L. "Mike" Kiger of Carrollton, who passed away on June 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Mike Kiger was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 27, 1952 to Richard L. and Ruth P. (nee Miller) Kiger; he graduated from Mattoon High School and attended Eastern Illinois University; he married Rhonda Price on June 3, 1973 and they settled in Carrollton; and

WHEREAS, Mike Kiger became involved in law enforcement and worked as an officer for the Carrollton City Police Department from 1981 until his retirement in 2009, serving 20 of those years as Chief of Police; he became one of the first D.A.R.E. officers in the State of Illinois and brought the program to Greene County; and

WHEREAS, Mike Kiger was member of the Greene County Board, served on the school board, and was a member of the Carrollton Masonic Lodge; he volunteered for numerous other boards and organizations, especially those involving kids; he was a football and baseball official for many years; and

WHEREAS, Mike Kiger was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John A. and Norma M. Price; and

WHEREAS, Mike Kiger is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his children, John (Melissa) Kiger, Leah Kiger, and Jarod (Erin) Kiger; his grandchildren, Emma, Laila, Lily, King, Grant, and Reagan; his sisters, Michelle Skinlo and Victoria Reible; and his brother-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Price; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael L. "Mike" Kiger, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Kiger as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
