SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John "Jack" Kerwin, who passed away on May 23, 2015; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin was born on December 21, 1925 in Joliet; his parents were Raymond and Dorothy (nee Iverson) Kerwin; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin attended Joliet Township High School, where he graduated in 1944; after high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a survivor of Iwo Jima; he was a recipient of a Purple Heart for his service; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin worked as a machinist at Commonwealth Edison for over 35 years; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin was a lifetime member of the Moran Athletic Club and a member of the Senior Citizens Association; he also enjoyed golfing with the Medicare League, ushering at St. Mary Nativity Church, and taking a stroll with his four-legged furry companion, Abby; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (nee Petrilla) Kerwin; a grandmother, Nettie Kerwin; his parents; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends; and

WHEREAS, John Kerwin is survived by 4 children, Karen (Dale) O'Connell, Robert Kerwin, Holly Kerwin, and Mary Kay (Stephen) McGrath; 9 grandchildren, Kelli (Tony) Giese, Casey, Katie, and Kevin O'Connell, Jennifer (Bryan Kalina) and Stacey (Brandon Jordan) Kerwin, and Mary Grace, Margaret, and Sean McGrath; 5 great-grandchildren, Faith, Kobe, and Darren Jordan and Samantha and Elizabeth Giese; a brother-in-law, George (Helen) Petrilla; 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Pekar and Helen Graf; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of John "Jack" Kerwin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Kerwin as an expression of our sympathy.
