SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Janice Marilyn Miller Hartman, who passed
4away on May 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Janice Hartman was born on May 2, 1937 to Andrew
6and Mercedes Miller; she grew up in Matherville and graduated
7third in her class from Sherrard High School in 1955; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Janice Hartman returned to school after starting
9her family; she attended Lincoln Land Community College in
10Springfield, graduating in June of 1972 with an associate
11degree in science; she graduated from Sangamon State University
12with a bachelor's degree in psychology a year later; she worked
13for a year at the Springfield Mental Health Center and then
14moved to Champaign, where she earned a master's degree in
15social work from the University of Illinois in January of 1976;
16after graduation, she remained to work for the University of
17Illinois, where she taught, administered the undergraduate
18program, and served as an assistant and associate dean for the
19School of Social Work for many years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Janice Hartman was an avid fan of Illini sports
21and attended many events over the years; one of her shining
22moments was when she was able to be an "assistant coach" for

1Lou Henson; she was a founding member of the Crisis Nursery of
2Champaign, serving as president in 1986; she was also a
3founding member of Champaign County Court Appointed Special
4Advocates (CASA) for Children; and
 
5    WHEREAS, After retiring, Janice Hartman, and her husband,
6Chuck, moved to Columbia, Missouri for a time; she continued
7her volunteer work in different capacities, in between
8traveling to see family and trips around the world, eventually
9returning to Urbana; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Janice Hartman is survived by her husband, Charles
11Cowger; her 6 children from her marriage to Willis D. Hartman,
12Jr., Lisa (Aaron) Sedig, Lori (Jim) Petry, Mark Hartman, Mitch
13(Hope) Hartman, Leslie (Kevin) Rutland, and Kris (Dean)
14Edwardson; her grandchildren, Logan and Caleb Sedig, Adam, Ben,
15and Grace Petry, Laurel Hartman, Aubrey (Logan) Rogers, Kyle
16Rutland, Mitchell (Katherine) Hartman, Laura, Mathew, Michael,
17and Maddux Hartman,Erika Mueller, and Nikolaus Edwardson; her
18great-grandchildren, Ryker Johnson and Hudson Rogers; her
19sisters, Marlene Carlson and Diane Nagovan; and many friends
20and extended family; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Janice Marilyn Miller Hartman, and extend our sincere

1condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Janice Hartman as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
