SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Test scores and grade point averages do not tell us every important thing about our students; motivation, creativity, and the tenacity to innovate are essential values in our society; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Foundry for Innovation in Engineering Education (iFoundry), from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has created the awards program "Celebrating High School Innovators" as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate those top 100 students in the State of Illinois whose contributions are innovative, creative, or inspirational, on May 8 and 9, 2015; and

WHEREAS, The members of this body recognize the importance of innovation in our school systems to our communities, our State, and our country; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date of May 8, 2015 as High School Innovators Day and the week of May 4 - 10, 2015 as High School Innovators Week in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we call upon the citizens of this State to observe this day and week with appropriate programs and activities.
