SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Generose Marie Szostak of Sedgebrook, who passed away on April 8, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was born in Waukegan on November 24, 1929 to Narcyz "Nick" Snarski and Charlotte (nee Ratajczak) Snarski; she graduated from Holy Rosary School in 1943 and Waukegan Township High School in 1947; she married Charles Joseph Szostak on September 8, 1951 at Holy Rosary Church in North Chicago, now known as Queen of Peace Church; and

WHEREAS, Generose Szostak graduated as a court reporter from the Gregg Court Reporting School and began working in Chicago; she then worked for the family business, Ratajack's Confectionery Liquor store in North Chicago for 25 years, until in 1980; she then worked for Abbott Laboratories International Division, retiring in December of 1999; and

WHEREAS, After retirement, Generose Szostak volunteered at Habitat for Humanity Lake County, Catholic Charities for Meals on Wheels, and at the office helping with the money management program; she also served as coordinator at St. Gilbert Church for the Baptismal Bibs and Purificators; she was a Minister of Care and Eucharistic Minister and a money counter in the Parish; she was an AARP member and enjoyed her monthly meetings with her sewing club group; she moved to Sedgebrook in April of 2010 and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, as Minister of Care for Radford Green, for the Interfaith Council, and for the Catholic Council; and

WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was enjoyed participating in water volleyball, the fitness center, Phase 10, and Rummi Kub; and

WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; her brother, Eugene Snarski; and her sister-in-law, Sally Snarski; and

WHEREAS, Generose Szostak is survived by her 5 daughters, Rosemarie Szostak and John Johnson, Carlene Szostak and Cliff Lavin, Maryann and Ralph Wolf, Charlotte and Dan McLaughlin, and Madeline and Tom Hoge; her grandchildren, John David (Terry) Johnson and Johnna (Bryan) Bridges, Tim (Sherrie) Wolf and Joe (Kelly) Wolf, Michael and Rachael Lavin, Phillip and Eric Ricardo, Joseph Tyler, Thomas Peyton and William Mason Hoge, Carlie and Shannon McLaughlin; and her great-grandchildren Haley and Blake Wolf, Anna Beth and Sadie Bridges, and Lydia Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Generose Marie Szostak, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Generose Szostak as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
