SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William Bernard Nagy, who passed away on
4December 13, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Nagy was born on June 19, 1924 in
6Divernon; his parents were Frank Nagy, Sr. and Terez (nee Csak)
7Nagy; he married the former Dorothy Collins on May 28, 1949;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, William Nagy was raised in the Catholic Children's
10Home in Alton; he graduated from Marquette High School and
11attended Shurtleff College and Southern Illinois University
12Edwardsville; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Nagy served his country as a member of the
14United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II as
15a gunner's mate; during his service, he participated in the
16D-Day Invasion on Omaha Beach and also survived the sinking of
172 ships that he served on; and
 
18    WHEREAS, William Nagy retired as an engineer from Goulds
19Pumps in St. Louis, Missouri in 1992 after many years of
20service; and

1    WHEREAS, William Nagy was a past President of the
2Owens-Illinois Camera Club, a President of the Parent Teacher
3Association, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
41308, and President of the Senior Citizens of Fosterburg; he
5attended leadership training at the Philmont Scout Ranch and
6served as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of
7America and took a group of scouts to the National Jamboree at
8Valley Forge; he also proudly traveled with Honor Flight to
9Washington, D.C.; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Nagy enjoyed ballroom and square dancing,
11vegetable gardening, photography, creating stained glass art,
12playing tournament bridge, and building and repairing things;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, William Nagy is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 2
15children, Dennis Nagy (fiancee, Karen Cooper) and Gayle Hill
16Poehlman (Bruce); 8 grandchildren, Kristopher Nagy (Sarah),
17Brian Nagy, Matthew Nagy, Eleanor Nagy, Patrick Nagy, Ryan
18Hill, Nathan Hill, and Chester (Ashley) Hill, IV; 11
19great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Frank (June) Nagy, Jr.,
20James (Marilyn) Nagy, and John (Helen) Nagy; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
23family and friends, mourn the passing of William Bernard Nagy;

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of William Nagy as an expression of our
4sympathy.
