SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William Bernard Nagy, who passed away on December 13, 2014; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy was born on June 19, 1924 in Divernon; his parents were Frank Nagy, Sr. and Terez (nee Csak) Nagy; he married the former Dorothy Collins on May 28, 1949; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy was raised in the Catholic Children's Home in Alton; he graduated from Marquette High School and attended Shurtleff College and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy served his country as a member of the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II as a gunner's mate; during his service, he participated in the D-Day Invasion on Omaha Beach and also survived the sinking of 2 ships that he served on; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy retired as an engineer from Goulds Pumps in St. Louis, Missouri in 1992 after many years of service; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy was a past President of the Owens-Illinois Camera Club, a President of the Parent Teacher Association, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308, and President of the Senior Citizens of Fosterburg; he attended leadership training at the Philmont Scout Ranch and served as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and took a group of scouts to the National Jamboree at Valley Forge; he also proudly traveled with Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, vegetable gardening, photography, creating stained glass art, playing tournament bridge, and building and repairing things; and

WHEREAS, William Nagy is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 2 children, Dennis Nagy (fiancee, Karen Cooper) and Gayle Hill Poehlman (Bruce); 8 grandchildren, Kristopher Nagy (Sarah), Brian Nagy, Matthew Nagy, Eleanor Nagy, Patrick Nagy, Ryan Hill, Nathan Hill, and Chester (Ashley) Hill, IV; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Frank (June) Nagy, Jr., James (Marilyn) Nagy, and John (Helen) Nagy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of William Bernard Nagy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Nagy as an expression of our sympathy.
