SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jack A. Adams, Ph.D., who passed away on April 8, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was born in Waukegan on September 9, 1931 to Alexander and Sophia Adams; after a distinguished high school academic and athletic career, he attended the University of Wisconsin, where he studied toward his undergraduate degree and lettered in baseball and basketball; while at Wisconsin, he was active in the Army ROTC and received a commission as an officer in the United States Army; he served in the Signal Corps, spending significant time in the Orient and Europe during his career; he resigned his commission in 1962; he remained active in the Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel and was the presiding officer of the Waukegan Arsenal during the cold war era; and

WHEREAS, At the conclusion of his Army career, Dr. Adams pursued his passion for higher education, attending Roosevelt University and Northwestern University, earning a Ph.D. in educational administration; during this time, he held associate and full professorships at both institutions; he also spearheaded efforts to fund and found the College of Lake County as President of the College of Lake County Association; after receipt of his doctorate, he pursued a career that eventually led to the University of San Diego, where he was the Director of Special Projects and a Professor of Educational Administration; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was an avid skier and horticulturalist and after his retirement in 1999, he operated a private flower farm in Escondido, California; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams was preceded in death by his brother, John; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is survived by his brother, Paul (Adrienne) Adams; his 3 sons, Gregory (Karen), Jeffrey (Pati), and Paul; and his 6 grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, Tyler, Lucas, Evan, and Emily; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jack A. Adams, Ph.D., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Adams as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
