SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Patrick E. Mahoney of Western Springs,
4who passed away on March 22, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney grew up near 60th and Campbell
6Streets; he was struck by polio before he entered kindergarten
7and still learned to play table tennis through the Chicago Park
8District; he graduated from the University of Illinois at
9Urbana-Champaign; he and his wife, Jeanne, raised their family
10in Beverly, and later, Western Springs; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a personal-injury lawyer; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was affectionately known as the
13"Angel of St. Angela's" and volunteered much of his time to
14help the school, located on the West Side of Chicago; he did
15everything from substitute teaching, to buying paper and
16pencils, to fundraising, and even dispensing legal advice; 21
17years ago he became President of the St. Angela School Board
18and many say the school would not be open if it weren't for
19him; he was also a longtime supporter of Misericordia, a
20residential facility for people with developmental
21disabilities, serving as its legal advisor; he also supported
22St. Francis Xavier University; and

1    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a polio survivor; he achieved
2all of his success with an atrophied right arm, which he used
3for teachable moments at St. Angela's; he always viewed the
4school as a safe haven for kids; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney enjoyed playing table tennis,
6pool, basketball, and softball; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney is survived by his wife, Jeanne;
8his daughters, Maureen Dickinson and Peggy Kennedy; his sons,
9Tom and Terry; his brother, Timothy; and his 12 grandchildren;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
13Patrick E. Mahoney, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Patrick Mahoney as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
