SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Diana D. Suckow of Lake Bluff, who passed
4away on November 25, 2016, at the age of 89; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Diana Suckow was born and raised in Ripon,
6Wisconsin; she graduated from Ripon College and married Gordon
7Suckow in 1950; she enrolled in the Longy School of Music in
8Boston, Massachusetts, where she sang solos in the chorus that
9accompanied the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as at many
10church and synagogue services; she and her husband settled in
11Lake Bluff in 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Diana Suckow was a substitute teacher at the
13middle school level; the children affectionately called her
14"Sergeant Suckow"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Diana Suckow enjoyed taking her children to the
16beach; she served as Treasurer of the Lake Bluff Yacht Club and
17took part in the Chicago-Mackinac race; she was a loyal
18spectator at her grandsons' baseball games; she was an avid
19bridge player and enjoyed going to the Lake Bluff pool; she
20also enjoyed traveling to the family's second home in Green
21Valley, Arizona; and

1    WHEREAS, Diana Suckow always kept music as a part of her
2life; she sang in the Church of the Holy Spirit choir and was a
3founding and 30-year member of the Lake Forest Symphony, where
4she played the violin and was the first concert mistress; she
5also entertained smaller audiences with a trio and quartet; she
6later introduced her grandchildren to classical music by
7picnicking with them on summer evenings on the knoll just north
8of the Ravinia pavilion; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Diana Suckow is survived by her husband of 66
10years, Gordon; her daughter, Sue (David) Barkhausen; her son,
11John (Deb) Suckow; and her grandchildren, Wicks (Mary Therese)
12and Billy Barkhausen, and John and Sarah Suckow; therefore, be
13it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Diana D. Suckow, and extend our sincere condolences to her
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Diana Suckow as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
