SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Donald Joseph Ahearn, who passed away on January 1,2017, at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Ahearn was born on the West Side of Chicago on March 1, 1925 and attended Quigley High School and University of Saint Mary of the Lake Seminary; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Ahearn was the former pastor at Saint Juliana Parish in Edison Park; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Ahearn was ordained in 1951; he served as pastor or assistant pastor at seven different parishes in Chicago and the suburbs until 1975 when he was named pastor and administrator at Saint Juliana Parish; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Ahearn served as chaplain of St. Patrick High School; he was a member of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Review Board and the School Board Advisory Committee; he also served as Assistant Vicar for Senior Priests; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Ahearn was named Pastor Emeritus in 1995; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Donald Joseph Ahearn, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Ahearn as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
