SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of the Honorable Thomas A. Schermerhorn of Woodstock, who passed away on December 3, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was born in Chicago to Harry M. and Margaret (Farrow) Schermerhorn on February 1, 1935; he attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and graduated from St. George High School in 1956; he earned both his undergraduate and law degree from Loyola University; he married Patricia Byers in 1958 and they raised their children in Glenview and Bull Valley; and

WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn practiced law until he was appointed as an Associate Judge; he was later elected as a Circuit Court Judge in the 22nd Judicial District in Illinois; he served as a judge for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was a talented athlete, swimmer, golfer, and Little League coach; he was past President and a longtime member of the Woodstock Country Club; he was also a supporter of the Marian Central Catholic High School; and

WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn was preceded in death by his brothers, Tip, Jack, and Bob; and

WHEREAS, Judge Schermerhorn is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Leslie (Bjorn) Schermerhorn, Maggie (Drew) McElvain, and Tom "Horn" (Renee) Schermerhorn; his grandchildren, Hank Stahlecker, Claire Beutel, Ned, Caroline, and Charlie McElvain, and Caitie, David, and Andrew Schermerhorn; his sisters, Nancy Van Der Bosch, Sister Mary Frances Schermerhorn OSB, and Margaret Schermerhorn; and his brother, Richard (Pat) Schermerhorn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of the Honorable Thomas A. Schermerhorn, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Judge Schermerhorn as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
