SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard M. Devereaux of Harvard, who
4passed away on October 28, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux was born in New York City to
6Joseph and Catherine (Ellerkamp) Devereaux on October 28, 1924;
7he married Helena M. Michalowicz in Green Point, New York on
8October 14, 1951; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux served in the United States Army
10Infantry from March of 1943 to January of 1946, where he fought
11with the 96th Division in the Pacific Theater; he received two
12Bronze Stars for valor and was awarded a Purple Heart by
13Admiral Nimitz after being wounded in combat; the 96th Division
14received a Presidential Unit Citation for their great courage
15and valor; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux retired from General Motors,
17having worked for over 40 years as a contractor administrator;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux was preceded in death by his
20parents; his wife, Helena; his sister, Mary Dorothy; and his
21childhood dog; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux is survived by his children,
2Helaine (Stephen) Freyer, Janet (John) Gaffney, and Richard J.
3(Micki) Devereaux; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Steven)
4Morgan, Rosalie and Grace Gaffney, and Brody and Analisa
5Devereaux; and his great-grandchildren, Carson and Clare;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Richard M. Devereaux, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Richard Devereaux as an expression
14of our deepest sympathy.
