SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard M. Devereaux of Harvard, who passed away on October 28, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux was born in New York City to Joseph and Catherine (Ellerkamp) Devereaux on October 28, 1924; he married Helena M. Michalowicz in Green Point, New York on October 14, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux served in the United States Army Infantry from March of 1943 to January of 1946, where he fought with the 96th Division in the Pacific Theater; he received two Bronze Stars for valor and was awarded a Purple Heart by Admiral Nimitz after being wounded in combat; the 96th Division received a Presidential Unit Citation for their great courage and valor; and

WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux retired from General Motors, having worked for over 40 years as a contractor administrator; and

WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helena; his sister, Mary Dorothy; and his childhood dog; and

WHEREAS, Richard Devereaux is survived by his children, Helaine (Stephen) Freyer, Janet (John) Gaffney, and Richard J. (Micki) Devereaux; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Steven) Morgan, Rosalie and Grace Gaffney, and Brody and Analisa Devereaux; and his great-grandchildren, Carson and Clare; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard M. Devereaux, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Devereaux as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
