SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gretta Viola (Spivey) Whitted, a lifelong
4resident of Joliet, who passed away on November 22, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was born in Joliet to Willie and
6Ruby Spivey on September 16, 1937; she was educated in the
7Joliet Public Schools and, upon high school graduation,
8attended The Art Institute of Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted worked at APSA and then the City of
10Joliet, from where she retired; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was a founder of the Joliet Chapter
12of National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was a well-versed traveler,
14painter, photographer, and gardener; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was preceded in death by her
16grandparents, Odie and Sally Mitchell, and Rev. J.P. and Minnie
17Spivey; her parents, Willie and Ruby Spivey; her aunts, Viola
18Hatten, and Sadie Spivey; her uncles, Warren Mitchell, J.C.
19Mitchell, and Rhea Spivey; and her cousins, Raymond Spivey,
20Jesse Cecil Mitchell, Eddie Dorris, Judy Roberts, Debra Ray,

1and Jeffery Stevens; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted is survived by her loving and
3devoted husband of 58 years, Curtis Whitted; her only child,
4Robin Michelle Whitted; her brother, William "Billy" (Shirley)
5Spivey; her sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Clarence Jr.)
6Westbrooks, and Marie Spivey; her brother and sisters-in-law,
7James Whitted, Barbara Williams, and Betty Callett; her
8godchildren, Tara R. Spivey, and Brandon Stevens; her aunt,
9Belle Mitchell; her cousins, Ara Jean Sams, Francine Stevens,
10Donald Dennison, Michael Dennison, Diane Thomas, Larry Spivey,
11Brian Spivey, Beatrice Spivey, and Lynette Spivey; and numerous
12nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Gretta Viola Whitted,
16and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and
17all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Gretta Whitted as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
