SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward "Ed" Vincent of Oak Park, who
4passed away on October 3, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed was born to Edward R. and Erna H. Vincent on
6May 26, 1957; with the exception of one year, he lived his
7whole life in Oak Park; as a child, he took in injured wild
8animals and nursed them back to health until he could let them
9go; he attended Oak Park River Forest High School, where he ran
10track; he attended Washburn Trade School to learn tool and die
11making; his interest in tool and die also aligned with his
12opposition to the Vietnam War; tool and die makers were needed
13on the homefront during the war and he believed that as a
14career pursuit, tool and die might help him to avoid getting
15drafted; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ed was known as a person who did not give up on
17people, particularly those who were struggling; he touched many
18lives by reaching out during hard times to connect individuals
19to other friends, an interest, a job, or a social service that
20could help them to get back on their feet, a practice he
21cherished; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Ed was very interested in foreign languages; he

1spoke German fluently and spoke some words in many other
2languages; he enjoyed detecting and deciphering accents to
3determine the language of origin and to encourage the speaker
4to teach him new words or phrases; he had a great memory for
5words, pronunciation, and adaptability of foreign languages;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ed was interested in writing and completed several
8unpublished children's books and works of science fiction; he
9was interested in geology, paleontology, anthropology, and
10cars and other machines; he was known for his insatiable
11curiosity; he had an interest in everything and a desire to
12always know more about any topic that came before him; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ed operated one of the first bulletin board
14services, a precurser to the modern-day Internet; he published
15online neighborhood news websites at the Oak Park Journal and
16Forest Park Journal; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ed enjoyed traveling the world; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ed is survived by his wife, Cristen, and many
19other friends and loved ones; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Edward "Ed" Vincent, and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Edward Vincent as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
