SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lily Wei-Jeo Lee of Peoria, who passed away on March 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Lily Lee was born on November 7, 1936 in Ningbo, China; her parents were Z.H. and Alice Ching; she married Steve Lee on August 8, 1959, in Wilmington, Delaware; and

WHEREAS, As a young girl, Lily Lee immigrated with her family to Taipei, Taiwan, where she attended grade school and high school; in the early 1950s, she moved to Peoria to attend nursing school at St. Francis Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Lily Lee dedicated her entire career to nursing; she started her career as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital, where she served for many years; in 1972, she joined the staff of instructors at the Illinois Central College nursing program; as an instructor, she was able to work toward building a vital part of the Peoria area health care community; she served at Illinois Central College from 1972 to 1997; and

WHEREAS, Later in her life, Lily Lee set herself an ambitious goal of returning to school to earn a Ph.D. in pediatric nursing; after studying at the University of Illinois Chicago Circle campus and Yale University, she earned her Ph.D. with a thesis on assessing pediatric pain; and

WHEREAS, Lily Lee was an avid traveler; following her retirement, she and her husband traveled across the globe, sharing many adventures and serving as goodwill ambassadors for Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Lily Lee is survived by a son, Jeffrey; a daughter-in-law, Anthanette; a granddaughter, Elena; 3 sisters, Jean, Rose, and Mary; and a brother, David; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Lily Wei-Jeo Lee; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lily Lee as an expression of our sympathy.
