SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Angel Melendez of Zion, who passed away on November 11, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to Felix and Ana (Alvarez) Melendez on December 20, 1951 and was a lifelong resident of Lake County; he attended Maryville Academy in Des Plaines and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1969; he entered the military in 1970, where he served two years in the United States Marine Corps, and received an honorable discharge; he continued his service as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve for four years; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was employed by the Veterans Administration of North Chicago and the Ann Kiley Center; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez received the Veterans Administration Performance Award and a Certificate of Nomination from the American Legion; he received many other accolades; he was an AMVETS Life Member; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez enjoyed riding his motorcycle, spending time with his dog, Minnie, and working out at the VA; he loved God, his family, and listening to the oldies; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez was preceded in death by his father, Felix; his brothers, Isaac and Eladeo; and his sisters, Porfiria and Martha; and

WHEREAS, Angel Melendez is survived by his wife, Anna Maria (Nieves) Melendez; his daughters, Hilda Quinones (Jesse D.), and Annette; his sons, Michael, and Gabriel Graham; his grandchildren, Lisette, Jesse, Yvette, and Julian Quinones, and Taylor, Avery, Emma, Kendall, and Elliott Graham; his great-grandchildren, Devin, Arian, and Jesse III; his mother, Ana; his siblings, Carmen, Santo (Mary), Freddy (Julie), Rose Staben (Milton D.), and Ada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and several greats; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Angel Melendez, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Angel Melendez as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
