SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Earl G. Weichel of Rantoul, who passed away on July 2, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel was born on December 22, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa; he married Joan L. Dettmann on July 10, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dubuque, Iowa; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel served in the United States Navy and the United States Army from 1946 to 1954; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel worked in management of Caradco for many years until his retirement in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel loved Rantoul and was active in the community in many capacities; he served as director and past president of the Armed Services YMCA, director of the Rantoul Chamber of Commerce, section leader for the United Way, director of the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum, and director and president of the Rantoul Community Foundation; he was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Free and Accepted Masons and served as president of the Rantoul Rotary Club in 1985; his involvement in the community earned him the "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" award; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel enjoyed fly fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his children and granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Earl Weichel is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Pamela Harris and Craig Weichel; his granddaughter, Alyssa Harris; his son-in-law, Tom Harris; and his sisters, Hilda Shade and Glenda Reynolds; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Earl G. Weichel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Earl G. Weichel as an expression of our sympathy.
