SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Laurence A. Sletten of Colona, who passed
4away on November 8, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was born in Ontario, Wisconsin to
6Clarence and Paula Larson Sletten on August 22, 1923; he
7married Hazel Cole in Elroy, Wisconsin on November 19, 1946; he
8served in the United States Navy during World War II and
9continued to serve in the Reserve; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was a dairy farmer and a truck
11driver in Wisconsin; he later retired from International
12Harvester in East Moline after 20 years; he also worked for the
13mortuary in Colona for more than 35 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was a founding member of
15Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Colona; he was a charter
16member of the Colona Lions Club and a member of Colona American
17Legion Post 1233 and the 40 & 8 campground in Atkinson; he was
18a former Green Rock alderman; he loved camping, fishing, and
19spending time with his family; he was as an avid fan of the
20Chicago Cubs; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was preceded in death by his

1parents; his wife, Hazel; two sisters; and two brothers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten is survived by his children,
3Larry C. (Linda) Sletten, Bruce E. (Lenora) Sletten, and
4Clarence A. Sletten; seven grandchildren; eight
5great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Janet Craven, and Marion
6Sletten; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Laurence A. Sletten, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Laurence Sletten as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
