SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Laurence A. Sletten of Colona, who passed away on November 8, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was born in Ontario, Wisconsin to Clarence and Paula Larson Sletten on August 22, 1923; he married Hazel Cole in Elroy, Wisconsin on November 19, 1946; he served in the United States Navy during World War II and continued to serve in the Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was a dairy farmer and a truck driver in Wisconsin; he later retired from International Harvester in East Moline after 20 years; he also worked for the mortuary in Colona for more than 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was a founding member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Colona; he was a charter member of the Colona Lions Club and a member of Colona American Legion Post 1233 and the 40 & 8 campground in Atkinson; he was a former Green Rock alderman; he loved camping, fishing, and spending time with his family; he was as an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and

WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; two sisters; and two brothers; and

WHEREAS, Laurence Sletten is survived by his children, Larry C. (Linda) Sletten, Bruce E. (Lenora) Sletten, and Clarence A. Sletten; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Janet Craven, and Marion Sletten; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Laurence A. Sletten, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Laurence Sletten as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
