SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Frank James Kerous IV, who passed
4away on July 29, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV was born on March 26, 1940;
6his parents were Frank and Lucille Kerous; he married Sandra
7Erland on March 16, 1968; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV attended Morton High School,
9where he excelled at academics, swimming, and was the editor in
10chief of the 1957 Mortonian yearbook; after graduating in 1957,
11he attended Knox College in Galesburg, with the intention of
12pursuing the field of dentistry; while at Knox, he swam with
13the Knox swimming team and wore his Knox letter jacket proudly
14until his last days; he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon
15Fraternity and was made an Honor Delta TKE in 1978; he was
16elected to be a trustee of Knox College in 1974 and made a life
17trustee in 2009; he was also president of the Knox Alumni
18Association from 1974 to 1976 and chaired three capital fund
19drives for his alma mater; and
 
20    WHEREAS, After graduating from Knox College, Dr. Frank
21Kerous IV attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where
22he obtained a doctoral degree in dental surgery, followed by

1two years of specialty training in periodontics; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV was one of the first
3periodontists in the Chicago suburbs; he maintained offices in
4Arlington Heights and Oak Brook for many years; while
5maintaining his private practice, he also began teaching at the
6University of Illinois at Chicago in 1964, spending 38 years in
7the Department of Periodontics and eventually becoming a
8tenured faculty member; following his retirement, he served as
9the Clinical Director of Periodontics and spent most of his
10time preparing senior students for board examination; he and
11his wife also opened and operated McDonald's franchises in the
12Glenview area in the late 1970s; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV and his wife were early
14members of Christ Church of Oak Brook, where he was secretary
15of the board of elders for many years; he was pleased to have
16been the principal architect of the Christ Church endowment
17fund in 1980; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Kerous IV is survived by his wife,
19Sandra; his children, Karen (Richard) Kooy, Kathryn (David)
20Voss, and Frank (Emily) Kerous V; and his grandchildren, Luke,
21Julia, Joshua, Matthew, Elliana, Carrigan, and Annabel;
22therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
3family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Frank James Kerous
4IV; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Dr. Frank Kerous IV as an expression
7of our sympathy.
