SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lloyd Maday, who died peacefully,
4surrounded by family and friends, after a 2-year battle with
5cardiac amyloidosis; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was born and raised in Evanston, the
7youngest of 6 boys; he worked as a produce manager at a
8neighborhood grocery store before graduating from St. George
9High School in Evanston; and
 
10    WHEREAS, At the age of 19, Lloyd Maday and his brother
11opened Maday Brothers Auto Service at Central Street and
12Broadway Avenue in Evanston in 1951; 3 of his brothers worked
13with him at the auto shop; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was married in 1960 after a whirlwind
15engagement and lived in Chicago for 6 years before settling in
16Evanston; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday and the shop became fixtures in the
18community, highlighted by Maday coaching in Little League,
19coaching football and baseball at St. Athanasius Grade School
20in Evanston, and mentoring young people interested in cars, all
21while remaining a committed husband and strong father to his

1children; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday taught friends, family, and customers
3about the basics and intricacies of automobiles with an
4unmatched zeal and familiarity, but also about the importance
5of maintaining a strong character and resolve; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Maday Brothers Auto Service still stands on the
7same corner, though it was sold by Lloyd Maday to one of his
8longtime employees upon his retirement in 1999; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was preceded in death by his son,
10John, and his 5 brothers; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday will be remembered, celebrated, and
12missed by his wife, Kathleen; 2 sons, Terry and Bill; 4
13daughters, Maureen Frazell, Liz Brieva, Katie Mohajir, and
14Peggy Martin; and 29 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Lloyd Maday and honor
18his life; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Lloyd Maday as an expression of our
