SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lloyd Maday, who died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a 2-year battle with cardiac amyloidosis; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was born and raised in Evanston, the youngest of 6 boys; he worked as a produce manager at a neighborhood grocery store before graduating from St. George High School in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, At the age of 19, Lloyd Maday and his brother opened Maday Brothers Auto Service at Central Street and Broadway Avenue in Evanston in 1951; 3 of his brothers worked with him at the auto shop; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was married in 1960 after a whirlwind engagement and lived in Chicago for 6 years before settling in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday and the shop became fixtures in the community, highlighted by Maday coaching in Little League, coaching football and baseball at St. Athanasius Grade School in Evanston, and mentoring young people interested in cars, all while remaining a committed husband and strong father to his children; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday taught friends, family, and customers about the basics and intricacies of automobiles with an unmatched zeal and familiarity, but also about the importance of maintaining a strong character and resolve; and

WHEREAS, Maday Brothers Auto Service still stands on the same corner, though it was sold by Lloyd Maday to one of his longtime employees upon his retirement in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday was preceded in death by his son, John, and his 5 brothers; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Maday will be remembered, celebrated, and missed by his wife, Kathleen; 2 sons, Terry and Bill; 4 daughters, Maureen Frazell, Liz Brieva, Katie Mohajir, and Peggy Martin; and 29 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Lloyd Maday and honor his life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lloyd Maday as an expression of our sympathy.
