SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bert D. Carlson of Rock Island, who passed away on October 24, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was born on June 28, 1925 in Galva; his parents were Clyde C. and Ethel Griggs Carlson; he married Gladys J. Clure on November 12, 1950 at Central Presbyterian Church in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson worked as a procurement officer for the Rock Island Arsenal for 33 years until his retirement in 1982; he also worked for Case IH for three years and taught students to play the organ; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson proudly served in the United States Navy as a Ship's Cook, Third Class during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1945 and later became a member of Moline American Legion Post 246; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church and Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, where he was a choir member for many years; he was also a member of Davenport Moose Lodge No. 28 and Quad City Organist Society; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson enjoyed playing the organ for private parties and for Friendship Manor; he also liked cooking, dancing, decorating the outdoors for Christmas, and working outdoors; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen Lynn Carlson; and his brothers, Curtis Carlson and Richard Carlson; and

WHEREAS, Bert Carlson is survived by his wife, Gladys Carlson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Todd Vandersnick and Julie and Bruce Romero; his grandchildren, Orterio Villa, Scott Villa, Jeremy Romero, Bethany and Idris Okere, and Caitlin Vandersnick; his sister-in-law, Rose Carlson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Bert D. Carlson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bert Carlson as an expression of our sympathy.
