SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lucius Alfred Copeland of Waukegan, who passed away on August 6, 2016 at the age of 86; and

WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was born in Waukegan and attended Waukegan schools, graduating from Waukegan Township High School in the Class of 1948; he also attended the University of Illinois and the College of Lake County; and

WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland enjoyed playing sports during his teenage and young adult years; he was a member of the community league softball and basketball teams and played football while serving in the Army; and

WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was employed at American Motors of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ameritech of Illinois, where he retired after 23 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland attended Shiloh Baptist Church of Waukegan, where he was actively and faithfully involved in the church ministries as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon, financial secretary, and member of the Lake County Jail Mission and music departments; he was a Boy Scout troop Scoutmaster, a coach of Little League football and softball, a member of the YMCA South Genesee Branch Board and the Waukegan District #60 School Board, and an Alderman of the City of Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland is survived by his wife, Catherine; his children, Torrey Copeland, Tryon (Gabreille) Copeland, and Renee Sharrod; his grandchildren, Sydney, Spencer, Tyson, Steven, Deondra, and Stephanie; his great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; his nieces, nephews, and cousins; six godchildren; his church family; and many friends, including a special friend, Frank Harris; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Lucius Alfred Copeland; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lucius Copeland as an expression of our sympathy.
