SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lucius Alfred Copeland of Waukegan, who
4passed away on August 6, 2016 at the age of 86; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was born in Waukegan and attended
6Waukegan schools, graduating from Waukegan Township High
7School in the Class of 1948; he also attended the University of
8Illinois and the College of Lake County; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland enjoyed playing sports during his
10teenage and young adult years; he was a member of the community
11league softball and basketball teams and played football while
12serving in the Army; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland was employed at American Motors of
14Kenosha, Wisconsin and Ameritech of Illinois, where he retired
15after 23 years of dedicated service; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland attended Shiloh Baptist Church of
17Waukegan, where he was actively and faithfully involved in the
18church ministries as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon,
19financial secretary, and member of the Lake County Jail Mission
20and music departments; he was a Boy Scout troop Scoutmaster, a
21coach of Little League football and softball, a member of the

1YMCA South Genesee Branch Board and the Waukegan District #60
2School Board, and an Alderman of the City of Waukegan; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lucius Copeland is survived by his wife,
4Catherine; his children, Torrey Copeland, Tryon (Gabreille)
5Copeland, and Renee Sharrod; his grandchildren, Sydney,
6Spencer, Tyson, Steven, Deondra, and Stephanie; his
7great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; four
8brothers-in-law; his nieces, nephews, and cousins; six
9godchildren; his church family; and many friends, including a
10special friend, Frank Harris; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Lucius Alfred
14Copeland; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Lucius Copeland as an expression of
17our sympathy.
