SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald E. Stephens II of Rosemont, who passed away on August 13, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II was the former public safety superintendent of Rosemont and son of the village's founding mayor, Donald E. Stephens; and

WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II began working for Rosemont in 1971; he was instrumental in the opening of the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and the Rosemont Horizon, now known as the Allstate Arena; he had a hand in other municipal buildings and projects, and served as Deputy Mayor in the late 1980s under his father; and

WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II was among the charter members of the public safety department's K9 unit and the third superintendent of public safety in Rosemont's history; and

WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II retired in 2014 but continued to be active in the police department, serving as Chairman of the police and fire commission; and

WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Brittany; his son, Rosemont Police Chief Donald E. Stephens III; his son, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center Executive Director Christopher Stephens; and his brother, Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald E. Stephens II, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Stephens II as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
