SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jo Ann Cowles of Springfield, who passed away on June 24, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Cowles was born in Petersburg to Gilbert and Freda Stull on August 4, 1937; she moved to Springfield in 1942; she graduated from Springfield High School in 1955 and married William J. Cowles that same year; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Cowles retired in 1999 from the State of Illinois after 28 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Cowles was active at Concordia Lutheran Church for 35 years; she belonged to the Prayer Chain, the Lunch Bunch, and various Bible study groups; she joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church in April of 2011 and belonged to the Prayer Chain there as well and the Seekers Bible group; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Cowles was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and

WHEREAS, Jo Ann Cowles is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Williams, and Kris Grove; her sons, William G. (Susan) Cowles, and Michael (Sheila) Cowles; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jo Ann Cowles, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jo Ann Cowles as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
