SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Minevar Ramsey, who passed away on May 16, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Minevar Ramsey was born in DeKalb, Mississippi to Estella Stennis and Henry Ramsey on July 27, 1933; she joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1944, where she worked with the Usher Board and the Young Adult Choir; she attended John Robinson and Washington Elementary Schools, Hughes Quinn Junior High, and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School on January 24, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Minevar Ramsey pursued a career as a clerk for School District 189 until she retired in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Minevar Ramsey loved working in her garden and backyard; she was an elegant woman of style who loved fashion and decorating; she had a passion for cooking and spent numerous hours baking her favorite sweet potato and apple pies and her famous greens; and

WHEREAS, Minevar Ramsey was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Daisy and Mattie; and her brothers, Hollis, Fred, Henry Jr., Stennis, and Sam; and

WHEREAS, Minevar Ramsey is survived by her sons, Marquis (Lametria) Ramsey and Kevin (Doreen) Ramsey; her granddaughters, Tamara Gibbs, Kajavia Ramsey, Samiya Ramsey, Tresnae Ramsey, and Amariell Ramsey; her grandsons, Marquis Ramsey Jr. and De'Dre Ramsey; her step-grandson, Jerrod Cross; her great-granddaughters, Keyontae Gibbs, Brittany Jennings, Samya Jennings, Tamna Jennings, and Markal Ramsey; her great-grandson, Ramonte Gibbs; her great-great-granddaughter, Naomi Mosley; her great-great-grandson, Ashton Gibbs; her special nephew, Brady Lee Nunn; her special niece, Wendy McClain; her life-long childhood friend, Lillian Blackmon; and numerous loving relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Minevar Ramsey, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Minevar Ramsey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
