SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ray Merrill Evans of Richmond, who passed away on April 24, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Ray Evans was born in Chicago to Adren Ray and Junia (Peterson) Evans on March 18, 1931; he married Ramona Vandermeir in Schiller Park on June 16, 1951 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Ray Evans was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority as a mechanic; he then worked for Sam's Towing in Franklin Park and as a mechanic with TWA; he retired from TWA with over 30 years of service; and

WHEREAS, After retirement, Ray Evans moved with his wife to Shelbyville for 11 years and then to Huntley to be closer to family; most recently, he resided in the Richmond/Spring Grove area; he enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling, playing cards, and cars; he was a member of the Crystal Lake Senior Citizens Club, and enjoyed the company of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Ray Evans was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Lewis and Cleo; and

WHEREAS, Ray Evans is survived by his wife, Ramona; his five children, John Evans (Sue Flemming), Richard Evans, Kimberly (Brian) Bandow, Gregory (Debra) Evans, and Janice (Chris) Voegtle; his 13 grandchildren, Shannon Evans (Tom Pomplun), Amanda (Craig) Mitchell, Scott Nugent, Justin (Jenn) Evans, Timothy (Stephanie) Nugent, Kent Evans, Britt Macias, James (Nicole) Evans, Mitchell Evans, Randl Evans, Gregory Voegtle, Jesse Evans, and Michael Voegtle; his great-grandchildren, Evan, Kayli, Weston, Anastasia, Brayden, Jayce, Cree, Charis, and August; and his three sisters, Arline Christell, Lorraine Hagen, and Faye Ford; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ray Merrill Evans, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ray Evans as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
