| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert E. "Bob" Brent of Aurora, who | 4 | | passed away on May 5, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent was born in Thackeray to Howard and | 6 | | Mary Lorene (McChesney) Brent on February 20, 1939; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent served with the Aurora Police | 8 | | Department for 28 years, including 12 years as Chief of Police; | 9 | | during his police career, he received advanced training at the | 10 | | University of Louisville, the University of Illinois, and | 11 | | Michigan State University; he earned his Bachelor of Law degree | 12 | | from LaSalle Extension University of Chicago; he received | 13 | | training at the FBI Academy and the U.S. Secret Service | 14 | | Academy; he served on the adjunct faculty of Aurora University | 15 | | and the Police Training Institute at the University of | 16 | | Illinois; while with the Aurora Police Department, he was a | 17 | | member of one of the area's first SWAT teams; he served on | 18 | | presidential family and candidate protection details, and | 19 | | acted as Chief of Detectives before becoming the youngest Chief | 20 | | of Police for a city and police department of Aurora's size in | 21 | | the country at that time; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Aurora Police |

| 1 | | Department in 1989, Robert Brent joined Alarm Detection | 2 | | Systems, Inc of Aurora for 15 years as their Director of Public | 3 | | Relations; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent was an active and dedicated community | 5 | | volunteer and leader throughout his entire life; he began | 6 | | serving as a Scout leader before he had any children of his | 7 | | own, and remained active in Scouting for many years; he was | 8 | | especially proud of his involvement in Kiwanis Club; during his | 9 | | 44 years with the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, he served as Club | 10 | | President and was Kiwanian of the Year; he was also responsible | 11 | | for the creation of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Aurora; one of | 12 | | his proudest professional accomplishments was founding the | 13 | | Aurora Area Crime Stoppers; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent was a longtime member of the Juvenile | 15 | | Protective Association, and an active member in the Illinois | 16 | | and International Associations of Chief of Police, along with | 17 | | many other professional and law-enforcement organizations; he | 18 | | was a committed member of civic organizations, such as the | 19 | | Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, the former Mercy | 20 | | Hospital Foundation Board, and other church and civic clubs; he | 21 | | was also a member of Holy Angels Church in Aurora; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent enjoyed traveling with his wife, | 23 | | golf, and fishing, but he loved nothing more than camping with |

| 1 | | his family and friends, especially his grandchildren; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent was preceded in death by his parents | 3 | | and his sister, Verla Olson; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Robert Brent is survived by his wife of 55 years, | 5 | | Janice R. (Rausch); his children, Mark (Kristen) Brent and Ann | 6 | | Marie (Joseph) Pawlisz; his grandchildren, Cameron, Robert, | 7 | | Courtney, Braden, Morgan, Tyler, and Kylee; his sister, Beverly | 8 | | Williams; his brother, Gary Brent; his brother-in-law, Dr. | 9 | | Richard Olson; and many loving relatives and friends; | 10 | | therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Robert E. "Bob" Brent, and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
