SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joanne "Della" Fought of Peoria, who
4passed away on February 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joanne Fought was born in Denver, Colorado on
6October 27, 1931 to William and Grace Hoagland; she married
7John "Jack" Fought in Denver on August 4, 1951; they settled in
8Peoria in 1969; she earned her master's degree in library
9science from the University of Illinois in 1974; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joanne Fought worked as a librarian at Trewyn K-8
11School and Illinois Community College, retiring in 1988; she
12also created a library at the Peoria County Jail and founded
13the Alpha Park Library in Bartonville; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joanne Fought was active in many community
15organizations, including Common Place and the Center for
16Prevention of Abuse; along with her husband, she ran the
17Community Word newspaper for many years; she was a leader at
18the Universalist Unitarian Church, serving as President of the
19Board and as Chair of Social Action; she also served with 2
20ministerial search committees, the Building Committee, the
21Women's Fellowship, and Women in Religion, as well as with
22district and national groups; and

1    WHEREAS, Joanne Fought was preceded in death by her
2husband, Jack; her sons, John and Jeff; and her grandson, Bryan
3Fought; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joanne Fought is survived by her son, Jason;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Joanne "Della" Fought, and extend our sincere condolences to
9her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Joanne Fought as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
