SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Edward "the Duke" Gorman II of
4Edwardsville, who passed away on May 2, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Gorman II was born in Chicago to James and
6Mae Catherine (Jiracek) Gorman on November 9, 1930; he
7graduated from Fenwick High School in 1948 and earned his
8Bachelor of Arts from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa in
91952; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of
10Illinois School of Law in 1955; he was a member of the
11International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi and was
12admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1956; he served with the United
13States Army Security Agency from 1955 to 1957 and married
14Beverly Ann Gorman at St. Mary Church in Edwardsville on
15October 1, 1960; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In 1959, after two years with the Heyl Royster
17firm in Peoria, James Gorman II moved to Edwardsville and
18entered into law practice with Burton Bernard; in 1963, he
19became a partner with Reed, Armstrong and Gorman; he retired in
202002, and joined the firm of Lucco, Brown and Mudge; he retired
21again in December of 2015; during his 60 year legal career, he
22tried over 450 jury trials; and

1    WHEREAS, James Gorman II was a member of the American Bar
2Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, a former
3President of the Madison County Bar Association, and a Fellow
4in the American College of Trial Lawyers; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Gorman II's passions included his family,
6the law, and sailing; he competitively raced his sailboats at
7Lake Carlyle for four decades; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Gorman II was preceded in death by his
9parents; his sisters, Rosemary Leach and Jean Hughes; and his
10brothers-in-law, Robert Hughes and Donald Schweinberg; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Gorman II is survived by his wife of 55
12years, Beverly; his three sisters, Marcella Gorman, Virginia
13Schweinberg, and Patricia (John) Kruger; his three children and
14four stepchildren, Ann Elizabeth Gorman, James Edward Gorman
15III, Mary Ellen Gorman, John Gregory Mudge Jr., Stephen Clark
16Mudge, Robert Matthew Mudge, and William Anthony Mudge; his
17seven grandchildren, John Ludwig Mudge, Taylor Lee Mudge,
18Lauren Bond Mudge, Jacob Bond Mudge, Jamie Gorman Skigen,
19Willem Gorman Skigen, and Maggie Palmer-Gorman; and his
20brother-in-law, Chuck Leach; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1James Edward "the Duke" Gorman II, and extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of James Gorman II as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
