SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Geraldine Kelly Keirnan of Waukegan, who passed away on April 4, 2016 at the age of 93; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was the oldest daughter of Ellen F. and John J. Kelly; she also raised her eight brothers and sisters and truly cared for them throughout their lifetimes; she married Thomas S. Keirnan in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan graduated from Holy Child High School and then traveled the country during World War II performing as part of the Kelly Sisters; she and her sisters, Frances Kelly and Jane Kelly Kennedy, entertained the troops at all of the continental United States Army bases during the war as part of the USO tours; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was involved in the community and proud of her work on the Board of the Lake County Museum during its formative years; she was a dedicated officer of the Ex Libris Book Club and became its Historian, maintaining membership records and organizing the annual Book Club Christmas programs at Glen Flora Country Club; she was also a golfer and bridge player; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, and her siblings, Thomas Kelly, Frances Kelly, Jane Kennedy, Marjorie Huffine, Mary Lou Karasak, Dorothy Durka, and Dr. John Kelly and their spouses; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan is survived by her children, Ellen Louise (Bill Noth) Keirnan, Janine Elizabeth Keirnan, and Patrick (Ana) Keirnan; her grandchildren, Thomas Michael (Marice) Keirnan, Kelly Monica Keirnan, and Sean Sebastian Keirnan; her sister, Ginger (Bill) Durkin; several cousins, including Alice Kelly Mulvaney; her 60 nieces and nephews; Mary Ellen (Don) Vanderventer and her sisters, Joanie (Steve) Westphal and Carol (Steve) Wolf, and her nephew, Billy Durkin (Jen Moore); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine Kelly Keirnan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Geraldine Keirnan as an expression of our sympathy.
