SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Betty Stephano of Batavia, who passed away on April 24, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano was born on December 6, 1924 in Dubuque, Iowa; her parents were George and Amelia Glasser; she married Joseph Stephano on November 25, 1944 in Batavia; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano was a founding member of the Batavia Historical Society; as a friendly and loving citizen of Batavia, she served as the welcome mat hostess for the Batavia Chamber, welcoming new residents to town; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano was a member of the St. Charles Country Club, the Batavia Woman's Club, and Holy Cross Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano was affectionately known as "Candy Granny" for her love of children and spoiling them with candy; she loved history, classical music, golfing, her family, and her home where she lived for 51 years; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano is survived by her husband, Joseph; her children, Joseph (Cathy) Stephano II, Thomas (Donna) Stephano, Robert (David Kaszynski) Stephano, and Sara (Elvin) Harms; her grandchildren, Kevin and Amanda Stephano, Elizabeth Stephano, Cara (Conor) Boyle, Tommy (Rebecca) Stephano, and Samuel (Jennifer) and Nathaniel Harms; her great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cody Boyle; and her sister, Patricia Bowron; and

WHEREAS, Betty Stephano was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Virginia Robertson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Betty Stephano; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Betty Stephano as an expression of our sympathy.
