SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Safety is the highest priority for the streets and
3highways of our State; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The great State of Illinois is proud to be a
5national leader in motorcycle safety, education, and
6awareness; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Motorcycles are a common and economical means of
8transportation that reduces fuel consumption and road wear, and
9contributes in a significant way to the relief of traffic and
10parking congestion; and
 
11    WHEREAS, According to the Illinois Secretary of State's
12office, there are nearly 356,000 licensed motorcyclists in the
13State of Illinois; and
 
14    WHEREAS, It is especially meaningful that the citizens of
15our State be aware of motorcycles on the roadways and recognize
16the importance of motorcycle safety; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The members of A Brotherhood Aimed Toward
18Education (A.B.A.T.E.) of Illinois, Inc. have promoted
19motorcycle safety, education, and awareness in high school
20drivers' education programs and to the general public in our

1State for more than 29 years; the group has provided motorcycle
2awareness presentations to more than 138,000 participants in
3Illinois over the past 7 years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, All motorcyclists should proudly and actively
5promote the safe operation of motorcycles, as well as promote
6motorcycle safety, education, and awareness; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The motorcyclists of Illinois have contributed
8extensive volunteerism and money to national and community
9charitable organizations; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During the month of May, all roadway users should
11unite in the safe sharing of roadways within and throughout the
12great State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that, in recognition of over
15355,000 registered motorcycles statewide, over 29 years of
16A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois, Inc., and in recognition of the
17continued role Illinois serves as a leader in motorcycle
18safety, education, and awareness, we designate the month of May
19of 2016 as Motorcycle Awareness Month in the State of Illinois;
20and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
