SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald Edward "Dody" Hayes, who passed away on April 15, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes was born on July 2, 1936 in Alton; his parents were Edward and Mary Helen Hayes; he married Donna J. Pierce on June 1, 1958 in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes attended Western Military Academy and graduated from Alton High School in 1955; he started working at the Alton Telegraph in 1951 as a part-time stringer photographer; he also worked for the Illinois State Police from 1957 to 1960 as a Communications Clerk; in 1977, he left the State Police to become a full-time photographer at the Alton Telegraph, where he worked until his retirement in 1977; following his retirement, he spent 12 years working for the Alton Police Department in fleet maintenance; he also worked part-time for Argosy Casino Security for four years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes served as the 7th Ward Alderman for the City of Alton from 1978 to 1979; he also served as a Commissioner for the Alton Exposition for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton; he was also a life member of the Illinois Police Association and a longtime associate member of the Southern Illinois Police Chiefs Association; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; his brother, Jon D. Hayes; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Hayes; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hayes is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Lisa R. Hayes, David and Julie Hayes, Doug and Barb Hayes, and Darrin and Lisa G. Hayes; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Macias; his grandchildren, Brian (Tara) Hayes, Scott Hayes, Courtney (William) Kinkel, Joni (Brandon) Whitfield, Lauren (Ryan) Hoefert, Hillary Macias, Jordan Hayes, Brittany Hayes, Kaitlyn Hayes, Rachel Hayes, Brandon Hayes, Emily Macias, and Natalie Macias; and his great-grandchildren, Blakely Kinkel, Cameron and Rilynn Hayes, Jackson Hoefert, and Caiden Nicholson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald Edward "Dody" Hayes; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Hayes as an expression of our sympathy.
