SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Robert Benson, who passed away on
4April 10, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Benson was born on June 16, 1947 in
6Bloomington; his parents were John and Martha "Sunny" Benson;
7he married Mary Gushwa on July 21, 1973; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Benson completed his law degree at the
9University of Illinois; he subsequently served as the State's
10Attorney in Ford County for 11 years and later as an appellate
11attorney on the State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's
12staff; and
 
13    WHEREAS, As a young man, James Benson earned his Life Guard
14Certificate and his private pilot license; he enjoyed teaching
15his nephews the strategies of chess, the art of archery, and
16the patience of fishing; he also had an insatiable appetite for
17books; and
 
18    WHEREAS, As a United Methodist lay speaker, James Benson
19led the worship services at the Eunice Smith Nursing Home once
20a month; and

1    WHEREAS, James Benson is survived by his wife, Mary Benson;
2his sister, Lucinda Benson Vriner; and his brothers, Charles
3Benson and Edward Benson; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
6family and friends, mourn the passing of James Robert Benson;
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of James Benson as an expression of our
10sympathy.
