SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dean Edmond Copeland, who passed away on March 4, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland was born on March 13, 1921 in Alton; his parents were Joseph and Pauline Copeland; he married Leah "Faye" Fern Angel on May 26, 1951; she preceded him in death on August 1, 1998; he married Vida Smith on September 29, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland served in the United States Navy during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland was a member of Abundant Life Community Church; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland retired as Captain of the Alton Fire Department in 1982 after 30 years of service; he then worked for the Fosterburg Water Department from 1983 to 2010; he also farmed and excavated on the side; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland was preceded in death by his brothers, Carlos and Dwayne Copeland; his sister, Ruby Harris; and an infant sister; and

WHEREAS, Dean Copeland is survived by his wife, Vida; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jan Copeland; his grandchildren, Amy Copeland (Mike Abernathy), Angela Copeland, and Allyson Copeland; his siblings, William "Bill" (Edna) Copeland, Marylin Melton, Roberta "Bertie" Kennett, Paul (Lois) Copeland, and Anna Lee Terry; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Dean Edmond Copeland; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dean Copeland as an expression of our sympathy.
