SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eugene L. "Gene" Adams of McHenry, who
4passed away on February 6, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was born in McHenry to Lewis and
6Clara (nee Pitzen) Adams on June 13, 1920; he graduated from
7McHenry High School in 1938 and worked at Pitzen's Camp "The
8Bay" while going to high school and after graduation; at the
9age of 21, he was inducted into the United States Army and
10served during World War II from 1941 until 1945; as an
11infantryman, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon
12with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon
13with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and a Purple Heart Medal; after his
14honorable discharge, he married Marion Hausheer at St. Mary
15Church in McHenry on August 22, 1946; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Eugene Adams worked for Henry Muntz & Son of Elgin
17as an on-the-road hardware salesman; one of his accounts was
18Lee & Ray Electric, and in the early 1950s, he joined the
19business as part-owner; his role grew until ownership was
20turned over to his sons, Paul and Greg in December of 1973;
21from 1974 to his retirement in June of 1985, he worked for
22Englewood Electrical Supply; and

1    WHEREAS, Eugene Adams enjoyed fishing, gardening, and
2getting together with his friends; his monthly card club
3gathering with his buddies spanned 70 years; he often referred
4to himself as the V.P. of the L.C.G. (the Leinenkugal Choral
5Group), an annual fishing trip at Clam Lake; he volunteered,
6along with his wife, for the FISH food pantry in McHenry; he
7was a longtime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St.
8Mary Court 594; he was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church in
9McHenry, where he ushered; he was also a member and past
10President of the McHenry Kiwanis, where he organized the Peanut
11Day fundraiser for several years; he was also involved with the
12beginning of Little League Baseball in McHenry and a member of
13Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 in McHenry; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was preceded in death by his parents;
15his wife, Marion; his son, Greg; and his brother, Charles "Bud"
16"Sharky" Adams; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eugene Adams is survived by his 5 children, John
18"Jack" (Janet) Adams, Paul (Marjory) Adams, Mark (Sharon)
19Adams, Mary (Tom) Knaack, and Patricia (Mark) Giacomo; his 14
20grandchildren; and his 5 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Eugene L. "Gene" Adams, and extend our sincere condolences to

1his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Eugene Adams as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
