SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr., who passed away
4on February 1, 2016 at the age of 70; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was born on September 25,
61945 in Catron, Missouri; his parents were J.C. Coleman, Sr.
7and Eupha Lee Branch Coleman; he moved to North Chicago with
8his parents at a very early age; he remained there through high
9school, where he played football and was a State champion
10wrestler; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Pastor J.C.
12Coleman, Jr. immediately enlisted in the United States Army
13during the Vietnam era; he was honorably discharged in 1967;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, After his military service, Pastor J.C. Coleman,
16Jr. served Mt. Sinai Baptist Church faithfully as a Sunday
17school teacher for several years; he later moved his membership
18to Antioch Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend
19Perry, where he was ordained as a Deacon and later accepted his
20call into the ministry; he subsequently attended McKinley
21Theological Seminary, where he earned an associate's degree;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a faithful member of
2the New Era District for many years, serving as Secretary to 4
3Moderators, including Reverend Blackwell, Reverend Lightfoot,
4and currently Pastor Roberson; in 2006, he was called to serve
5as Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Waukegan,
6where he served faithfully until his passing; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was an avid sportsman; he
8continued playing football in the Army and on 2
9semi-professional teams, the Lake County Rifles and the Racine
10Raiders; he also spent many years as a referee on the high
11school level; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. loved his community and
13was a community activist who never hesitated to speak up for
14what he believed was right for the community; he supported and
15remained active in his community, coaching football for Holy
16Family School, helping to organize and coach the Flames for the
17North Chicago Park District, and helping to coach football and
18wrestling at North Chicago High School; he also organized and
19coached track and field for the Park District and served for
20one year as an assistant coach for the St. Joseph High School
21of Kenosha Track and Field team, where he led the girls team to
22victory at the Wisconsin state track meet for the first time in
23the school's history; and

1    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a Boy Scout leader
2for several years; he enjoyed teaching and working with young
3people, fishing, hunting, and gardening; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was preceded in death by
5his parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. is survived by his
7devoted wife, Inette Coleman, whom he married on August 12,
81967; his sons, Jarrod (Joyce) Coleman, Courtney (Abby) Johns,
9Ryan Eatmon, and Javontay Connor; his daughters, Cydney (Eric)
10Matthews, Pamela (Trevor) Daly, Kristal (Robert) Cross, and
11Kathy (Nathaniel) Hall; his grandchildren, Patrick, Jarrod,
12Jonathan, Pierce, and Joyce Coleman, Brianna, Amber, and Erica
13Mathews, Leila Eatmon, Nicholas and Madisen Daly, and Kennedy
14Elise Hall; his brothers, Michael (Margaret) Coleman, Willie
15(Melinda) Coleman, Dennis (Cheryl) Coleman, and Gerald
16(Cheryl) Coleman; his sisters, Pauline (Joe) Flowers and Betty
17Dean Jones; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other
18relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Pastor J.C. Coleman,
22Jr.; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. as an
3expression of our sympathy.
