SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Peter G. Butkovich of Wood River, who passed away on January 21, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich was born on April 2, 1921 in Wood River; his parents were Joseph J. and Mary Butkovich; he married Dorothy "Eloise" Evans on February 7, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich proudly served his country during World War II from 1939 to 1945 with the United States Coast Guard; he was involved in 6 invasions, one of which was D-Day at Omaha Beach, Normandy; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich worked at Standard Oil for 18 years and with the Boilermakers St. Louis Local 27 for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich and his wife enjoyed attending his USS Samuel Chase ship reunions, which were held yearly at various places around the United States; he was also a member of the Wood River Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Wood River Moose; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Mike, John, Thomas, Ben, Paul, Anna, Joe, and Matt Butkovich; and

WHEREAS, Peter Butkovich is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eloise Butkovich; his son, James Butkovich; his daughter, Nancy (Dave) Ringering; his grandchildren, Derek (Kelly) Ringering and Rachel (Michael) Wasserman; his great-grandchildren, Andrew and Olivia Wasserman; and his brother, Steve Butkovich; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Peter G. Butkovich; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Peter Butkovich as an expression of our sympathy.
