SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jan Marino, who passed away on December
431, 2015 at the age of 66; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jan Marino was born in Spalding, Nebraska; she
6received her journalism and marketing degree from Creighton
7University in Omaha in 1971; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jan Marino worked in marketing for a year for a
9Nebraska company that sold kitchen cabinets, and later worked
10in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the marketing manager of a health
11food company; she later lived in California before taking a job
12in sales at voice mail system producer Tigon; for several
13years, she lived in Cincinnati, where she worked in sales for
14the radar detector manufacturer Cincinnati Microwave; in 1996,
15she and her husband moved to Lisle, where she worked at Near
16North Insurance for a year before joining Bank of America's
17telecommunications group, where she served as a go-between for
18engineers and bank employees; and
 
19    WHEREAS, After subsequent jobs at outplacement firms
20Challenger, Gray, & Christmas and Right Management, Jan Marino
21formed her own firm, High Gain Companies, in 2008; the firm
22aims at providing companies with sales training, management

1coaching, succession planning, and social media program
2creation and maintenance, among other services; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jan Marino was a co-host of a weekly radio show at
4blogtalkradio.com with Brian Basilico; in 2011, she published
5"Take Back Your Career" a book that used her own experiences
6with career transitions to offer advice for experienced
7professionals shifting careers; in 2012, she began authoring a
8blog titled "Take Back Your Career" at ChicagoNow.com; the
9following year, she started serving as the strategic alliance
10manager of LinkedIn's Chicago group and began blogging at
11LinkedIn as well; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jan Marino was preceded in death by her first
13husband, Mike Milwood; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jan Marino is survived by her husband, John
15Marino; her brothers, Jim Echternacht and Chuck Echternacht;
16and her sister, Mary Savory; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
19family and friends, mourn the passing of Jan Marino; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
