SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William J. "Willie" Roth of Joliet, who
4passed away on December 28, 2015 at the age of 91; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Roth was born to German and Austrian
6immigrants, William and Stella (Pacen) Roth; he grew up in
7Joliet and excelled in football and basketball at Joliet
8Township High School and Joliet Junior College, before
9enlisting in the United States Army Air Force; he served as a
10Lieutenant during World War II, flying 25 bombing missions over
11enemy territory; after returning from the war, he earned his
12business degree at Northwestern University, while playing for
13the Wildcats basketball team; and
 
14    WHEREAS, For decades, William Roth was an esteemed banker,
15businessman, and financial consultant in the greater
16Chicagoland area, including over 30 years at Bill Jacobs
17Chevrolet; and
 
18    WHEREAS, William Roth was active in many civic
19organizations, including serving as President of the Joliet
20Region Chamber of Commerce; he and his wife traveled the world
21and he was an excellent tennis player and an avid golfer; he
22was a vital member of Saint Raymond Nonnatus Parish and a

1devoted supporter of Joliet Catholic Academy; and
 
2    WHEREAS, William Roth was the loving husband of 65 years to
3Irene "Murph" (nee Murphy); the beloved father of 6 sons,
4William (Bonnie), Michael (Julie), Thomas (Sue), James
5(Luanne), Robert (Kim), and John (Kim); the adored grandfather
6of 22; the great-grandfather of 5; and the brother to Jean
7(Ted) Smith; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10William J. "Willie" Roth, and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of William Roth as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
