SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy Marie Ralston of Waukegan, who
4passed away on November 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston was born in Waukegan on May 11,
61926 to John and Mary (nee Modic) Gabrosek and remained a
7life-long resident; she married Robert Theodore Ralston on
8September 22, 1951 at Mother of God Church in Waukegan; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston started work in the insurance
10department at Abbott Laboratories the day after her high school
11graduation from Waukegan Township High School; she also worked
12at Victory Memorial Hospital and was later employed as a unit
13secretary at St. Therese Hospital; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston enjoyed bowling and attending
15dances, especially the ones at Great Lakes Naval Base; while at
16Abbott, she and her sister, Juliette, were in the Abbott Spring
17Shows and the Abbott Kitchen Band; later, she and her husband
18started square dancing, along with their daughter, Robin; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston was a life-long member of the
20Slovenian National Benefit Society and the S.N.P.J. Sloga Lodge
2114 in Waukegan, where, during her youth, she was part of the

1Jolly Juveniles Circle and later served on the board for
2several years; she was also a member of the Slovenic National
3Home, the Bishop Baraga Association, and the Slovenian Cultural
4Center in Lemont; she was a member of Mother of God Church,
5Immaculate Conception Church, and lastly, St. Dismas Church,
6all located in Waukegan; at Mother of God, she was a member of
7the Christian Mother's Sodality, at Immaculate Conception she
8belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, and at St. Dismas she
9was in the St. Dismas Women's Club; she also belonged to the
10Catholic Women's Club of Lake County for several years and
11became a life member; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston was preceded in death by her
13daughter, Robin; her parents, John and Mary Gabrosek; and her 5
14sisters, Sophie (Eugene) Hooker, Jeanne (Robert) Jenkins,
15MaryAnn (James) McNeely, Tillie (Edward) Tolson, and Juliette
16(Robert) McCann; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dorothy Ralston is survived by her husband,
18Robert; her daughters, Yvonne Boyer, Doreen (Wesley) Reeves,
19and Loretta (Charles) Swingle; her grandchildren, Bridget,
20Ben, and Roxanne Boyer, Erin Reeves, Mary (Craig) Nelson, Jinah
21(Chris) Morris, and Keith Swingle; her great-granddaughter,
22Lexi Morris; and many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore,

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Dorothy Marie Ralston, and extend our sincere condolences to
4her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Dorothy Ralston as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
