SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard "Butch" Dobbs of Joliet, who passed away on November 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs graduated from Joliet Township High School (JTHS) in 1955, where he was a multi-sport athlete; he attended Colorado University his freshman year on a football scholarship; he left Boulder for the United States Marine Corps and then returned to Joliet Junior College to resume his education; he attended Illinois State University and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Education and his Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance; 5 years later, he moved his family to Bloomington, Indiana, where he received a doctorate degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University; and

WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs spent his career working as a psychologist; he was in private practice for over 25 years and then returned to JTHS as a guidance counselor for 10 years before retiring; he demonstrated commitment to his community through countless volunteer services and particularly enjoyed coaching youth sports; and

WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs was a voracious reader and one of his favorite places was the Joliet Public Library; he was recognized by Crisis Line for his years as a trainer and was also a long-standing member of the JTHS Archives committee; he was an active participant and beloved member of the Sacred Heart Church family; and

WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annette (DiLorenzo), and his children, Doug, Barb, Cathy (Ben Whitlock), and Michael (Jennifer Grisham-Dobbs); he was "Papa" to Carly, Katharine, Daniel, Emilie, Noah, Simone, and Beckett; he is also survived by his sister, Judy (late Stan) Waznis; his brother, Jack (Lois) Dobbs; his niece; his 4 nephews; and his special godson, Tristan McKinnis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard "Butch" Dobbs, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Dobbs as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
