SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David R. Holst of Moline, who passed away on December 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, David Holst was born in Davenport, Iowa on February 16, 1938 to H.L. Roy Holst and Ruth Fowler Holst; he married Maryn Kay Hix on June 26, 1960 in Oskaloosa, Iowa; he graduated from Moline High School and William Penn College; he was proud to be a United States Marine and was honored to be an active member of the Marine Corps League; and

WHEREAS, David Holst was owner of the Holst-Kakert Co. in Moline, with his son, Peter, and was the face of the company for 55 years; and

WHEREAS, David Holst was a member of First Congregational Church in Moline and a member of the choir and a junior high church school teacher; he was the town clerk in Moline Township for many years and a member and song leader of the Moline Noontime Kiwanis; he served on many boards at his church and on the Outdoor Ministry Team for the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ; and

WHEREAS, David Holst was an assistant with just about everything his boys were into, Scouting, athletics, youth group, Young Life, Boys Choir, Ski Club, and Indian Guides; he also was involved as a camp counselor at Pilgrim Park, with Teens Encountered Christ, and with Cursillo; he was an excellent gardener, golf enthusiast, and storyteller and someone who truly loved life, work, family, friends, and his customers; and

WHEREAS, David Holst was preceded in death by his wife, Maryn; his brother, Albion Holst; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, David Holst is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. John and Sara Holst; his grandchildren, Ashley Holst, Damon Holst, and Torrie Holst; his son, Peter Holst, and his fiancee, Felicia Craig; his grandchildren, Michael Holst and Lexie Holst, and their mother, Christine Holst; "Sweetheart" Elizabeth Champion and her family; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his family at First Congregational Church, past and present; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David R. Holst, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Holst as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
