SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Janice K. Schulien of Libertyville, who
4passed away on November 12, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien was born in Chicago on December
623, 1942 to Albert and Anna Krozel; she graduated from Loyola
7University-Chicago and earned a Ph.D. in microbiology from the
8University of Illinois in 1969; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien worked several years as a
10bacteriologist before raising 7 children as a homemaker; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien was deeply committed to her
12Catholic faith; she discerned a vocation in Carmel and was
13professed as a Third Order Carmelite in July 1997; she was a
14consistent life-long learner in the St. Joseph Lay Carmelite
15Community; in 1998, she completed a Master of Pastoral Studies
16at Loyola University-Chicago and began providing spiritual
17direction through the Institute of Diaconate Studies at
18Mundelein Seminary a few years later; she earned a Master of
19Professional Counseling in 2003 from National-Louis University
20and worked as an addictions counselor for several years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien was a voracious book reader and

1enjoyed working sudoku puzzles, gardening, listening to varied
2music, and appreciating art and architecture; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien was preceded in death by her
4parents; her husband of 43 years, John Schulien; and her
5daughter, Rachel Balmer; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Janice Schulien is survived by her children, John
7(Heather) Schulien, Rita (James) MacAyeal, Keith Schulien,
8Ruth Schulien, Valerie (Alex) Terray, and Karen (Wayne) Saxe;
9her grandchildren, Teresa, Daniel, Sophia, Madison, Eliza, and
10Adele; and her sister, Loretta Delaney; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Janice K. Schulien, and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Janice Schulien as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
