SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Jewell Price, Jr. of Springfield, who passed away on December 26, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was born in Kankakee on May 11, 1951 to Eddie J., Sr. and Edwinah (nee Cole) Price; he attended Bishop McNamara High School, Olympia State University in Olympia, Washington, and Governor State University; he served in the United States Navy from May of 1969 to January of 1971; he married Mary Price in 1974; he later married Connie Day and then Renatta Rhodes; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. retired from the State of Illinois after 34 years with the Department of Children and Family Services, the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, and the Office of Inspector General; he was elected 7th Ward Alderman in Kankakee from 1979 to 1983; and

WHEREAS, After moving to Springfield, Eddie Price, Jr. was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; he was also affiliated with Capitol City C.O.G.I.C., Union Baptist Church, and Kumler United Methodist Church; he volunteered for numerous ministries and organizations, including Foreign Mission (Germany and Liberia), "Hands Across the Sea", the National Baptist Association of Germany Congress of Christian Education, the Graham Correctional Prison Ministry, Memorial Medical Center Red Coats, Springfield District #186, Bereaved Parents of USA-Springfield Chapter, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the NAACP, the Illinois Association of Minorities in Government (past Chairman), and the YMCA (board member and President); he also coached the Kankakee East Side Bulldogs and was an organizer with the "Million Man March" in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Eddie J. Price, Sr.; his daughter, Joi Verniece Price; his grandparents, Rev. Russell and Annie B. Price, Florine Dunbar, and Ulyssess Grant Cole; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. is survived by his mother, Edwinah Price; his 4 sons, Daniel (Shonda) Roach, Malcolm (Kizzy), Kwame (Carmella) Price, and Timothy Smith; his 2 daughters, Aisha Price and Tempe Williams; his sister, Yvette (Michael) Maeweather; his brother, Garland Price; his 21 grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his first wife and friend, Mary Price; his special friend, Alicia Joseph; his special daughter, Alicia Ray; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eddie Jewell Price, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eddie Price, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
