SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eddie Jewell Price, Jr. of Springfield,
4who passed away on December 26, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was born in Kankakee on May 11,
61951 to Eddie J., Sr. and Edwinah (nee Cole) Price; he attended
7Bishop McNamara High School, Olympia State University in
8Olympia, Washington, and Governor State University; he served
9in the United States Navy from May of 1969 to January of 1971;
10he married Mary Price in 1974; he later married Connie Day and
11then Renatta Rhodes; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. retired from the State of
13Illinois after 34 years with the Department of Children and
14Family Services, the Department of Mental Health and
15Developmental Disabilities, and the Office of Inspector
16General; he was elected 7th Ward Alderman in Kankakee from 1979
17to 1983; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After moving to Springfield, Eddie Price, Jr. was
19a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then Pleasant
20Grove Baptist Church; he was also affiliated with Capitol City
21C.O.G.I.C., Union Baptist Church, and Kumler United Methodist
22Church; he volunteered for numerous ministries and

1organizations, including Foreign Mission (Germany and
2Liberia), "Hands Across the Sea", the National Baptist
3Association of Germany Congress of Christian Education, the
4Graham Correctional Prison Ministry, Memorial Medical Center
5Red Coats, Springfield District #186, Bereaved Parents of
6USA-Springfield Chapter, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the
7NAACP, the Illinois Association of Minorities in Government
8(past Chairman), and the YMCA (board member and President); he
9also coached the Kankakee East Side Bulldogs and was an
10organizer with the "Million Man March" in Washington, D.C.; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. was preceded in death by his
12father, Eddie J. Price, Sr.; his daughter, Joi Verniece Price;
13his grandparents, Rev. Russell and Annie B. Price, Florine
14Dunbar, and Ulyssess Grant Cole; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Eddie Price, Jr. is survived by his mother,
16Edwinah Price; his 4 sons, Daniel (Shonda) Roach, Malcolm
17(Kizzy), Kwame (Carmella) Price, and Timothy Smith; his 2
18daughters, Aisha Price and Tempe Williams; his sister, Yvette
19(Michael) Maeweather; his brother, Garland Price; his 21
20grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his first wife and
21friend, Mary Price; his special friend, Alicia Joseph; his
22special daughter, Alicia Ray; and many nieces, nephews,
23cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Eddie Jewell Price, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to
4his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Eddie Price, Jr. as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
