SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
4lives in service to their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On October 28, 2007, at approximately 2:49 a.m.,
6Illinois State Trooper Brian Carl McMillen, while responding to
7a request by a local officer for assistance, was involved in a
8fatal traffic crash with 2 additional vehicles on Dye Road in
9eastern Sangamon County; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Trooper McMillen grew up in Pana; he enlisted in
11the Illinois Air National Guard in 2000 and was a proud member
12serving as a Tech Sergeant with the 183rd Security Forces
13Squadron Fighter Wing; during his tenure, he served 3 separate
14overseas deployments; he served in Saudi Arabia in 2002 as part
15of Operation South Watch, in Romania in 2003 as part of
16Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in Italy in 2005; he received his
17bachelor degree in criminal justice in 2005 from the University
18of Illinois-Springfield; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Trooper McMillen graduated from Illinois State
20Police Cadet Class #113, for which he served as president, on
21February 2, 2007; and

1    WHEREAS, Every May, the Lincoln Land Community College
2(LLCC) Veterans Club hosts a Memorial Run/Walk to fund the LLCC
3Brian McMillen Veterans Scholarship to honor Trooper
4McMillen's legacy and to provide financial support to veterans
5attending LLCC; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Trooper McMillen is survived by his wife; his
7parents; and his 10 siblings; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
10CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Interstate 72, Exit
11122 overpass as the "Trooper Brian McMillen Memorial Overpass";
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED That the Illinois Department of Transportation is
14requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State
15and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving
16notice of the name "Trooper Brian McMillen Memorial Overpass";
17and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Trooper McMillen and the Secretary
20of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
