1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Podiatric Medical Practice Act of 1987 is
5amended by changing Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 100/5)  (from Ch. 111, par. 4805)
7    (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2018)
8    Sec. 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
9    (A) "Department" means the Department of Financial and
10Professional Regulation.
11    (B) "Secretary" means the Secretary of Financial and
12Professional Regulation.
13    (C) "Board" means the Podiatric Medical Licensing Board
14appointed by the Secretary.
15    (D) "Podiatric medicine" or "podiatry" means the
16diagnosis, medical, physical, or surgical treatment of the
17ailments of the human foot, including amputations as defined in
18this Section ; provided that amputations of the human foot are
19limited to 10 centimeters proximal to the tibial talar
20articulation. "Podiatric medicine" or "podiatry" includes the
21provision of topical and local anesthesia and moderate and deep
22sedation, as defined by Department rule adopted under the
23Medical Practice Act of 1987. For the purposes of this Act, the

1terms podiatric medicine, podiatry and chiropody have the same
2definition.
3    (E) "Human foot" means the ankle and soft tissue which
4insert into the foot as well as the foot.
5    (F) "Podiatric physician" means a physician licensed to
6practice podiatric medicine.
7    (G) "Postgraduate training" means a minimum one year
8postdoctoral structured and supervised educational experience
9approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the
10American Podiatric Medical Association which includes
11residencies and preceptorships.
12    (H) "Amputations" means amputations of the human foot, in
13whole or in part, that are limited to 10 centimeters proximal
14to the tibial talar articulation.
