HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Coach Doug Creel of the Mt. Vernon Township High School boys basketball team, the Rams, on setting a school record with his 272nd win; and

WHEREAS, Coach Creel has had 2 stints as Rams coach, during which time he led the Rams to some of their most successful seasons; his first season was the 1995-96 school year; and

WHEREAS, Starting in 1997, the Rams won 5 straight regional titles; 3 times during that stretch, the Rams won at least 25 games; Coach Creel stepped down from his position after the 2007-08 season; and

WHEREAS, Coach Creel returned to coaching after a 6-year absence; his first season back on the sidelines ended with a regional title; and

WHEREAS, Coach Creel scored his 272nd win, the most in Mt. Vernon Township High School boys basketball history, in a game against Effingham High School; and

WHEREAS, The game in which Coach Creel broke the record went down to the wire; it ended with 2 free throws in the last second of the game to make it a 53 to 51 Rams victory; and

WHEREAS, The Rams have an overall winning record under Coach Creel's leadership; and

WHEREAS, Coach Creel has devoted an immense amount of time, energy, and effort to the Rams program; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Coach Doug Creel of the Mt. Vernon Township High School boys basketball team, the Rams, on setting a school record with his 272nd win, and we wish him many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Doug Creel and the Rams.
